This serves as a reminder to me. Once again, this is a personal blog post.
Get going. Just start doing whatever it is that you need to. Your brain is going to convince you of fifty different reasons for why you should put it off for later, to wait until you have a better idea.
But, here you are right now— Without any inspiration, typing away. Your fingers and some deep recess of your brain are linked without the knowledge of your chattering lizard brain. The fingers move on this keyboard without permission and second thought once your rational brain allows it. The work gets done. All your chattering lizard brain (We should name this figure. I get the idea that I’ll be talking a lot about it. What’s a stupid name? Willie Stroker. Perfect.) —Willie Stroker has to do is to get your fingers on the keyboard.
I went on a whole other tangent and finished scripting my video for today, just because I let myself bitch and moan about the power of Willie Stroker. This shit works, period.
Stop hounding for inspiration and ideas. Action proceeds them both. Get comfortable with the feeling of running on an empty tank of ideas, because you’re not always going to come up with mind-boggling ideas.
You know the process of acquiring interesting ideas— Expose yourself to a bunch of new concepts through reading, videos, podcasts, etc. Give the ideas some time to digest, let them churn, and mix with your previous experiences. Give yourself some diffused time where you’re not concentrating too intensely and voila, it’ll show itself to you.
It is not an active process. You need to give yourself time for ideas, it can’t be forced. Writing, however? Showing up here to write every day is not based on ideas or inspiration. It takes discipline. That is what you’re building here.
If you have the discipline to show and write something, anything you have set the stage for the ideas to make it on to here. That means on some days I do bitch and moan about not having ideas and things to write about, such as today. You have earned permission to do so.
